Obituary

Verna Marie Schimnoski, age 99 of Three Rivers died January 1, 2012 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo surrounded by her family. She was born in Mountain Lake, MN on November 22, 1912 the daughter of August and Mary (Beier) Schimnoski. She graduated from Jeffers High School, Mankato State College, and Calhoun Secretarial School in Minneapolis. Verna was a long-time employee in the Minneapolis office of Marsh McLennan Companies. In 1995 she moved to Three Rivers to be near her family. She joined the First United Methodist Church where she was an active member. Verna was also a charter member of the HealthTrac, staying active while exercising there. Verna was active her entire life. She loved to golf, hike, play cards, and travel to Minnesota in the summer to visit friends and family. Verna had many wonderful friends in Minnesota and Three Rivers. She loved spending time with her family and always looked forward to cooking a big meal. Verna will be greatly missed by her loved ones, and will always have a special place in their hearts. Verna was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Louis; and great nephew, John Dannison. She is survived by her brother, Dr. Donald Schimnoski of Three Rivers; nephews, Ken (Marian) Schimnoski, Wayne (Janice) Schimnoski and Vernon Schimnoski; nieces, Janice (Mark) Johnson, and Brenda Schimnoski; many more relatives that span three generations, including cousins, Paul McComnick and Dorothy Hochstein of Minnesota. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday Jan. 14, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Three Rivers. Memorial services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with Rev. Dr. Maria Rutland officiating. A private interment of her ashes will take place later in Jeffers, Minnesota. Memorials may be directed to either the First United Methodist Church or to the Dr. Donald Schimnoski Scholarship Fund in care of the Three Rivers Community Foundation to benefit students from St. Joseph County pursuing careers in the healthcare field.
