Sidney Thurman, age 79 of Three Rivers, died Sunday Dec. 12, 2010 at his home with his family at his side. He was born in Grenada, MS on Sep. 21, 1931 the son of Sidney and Mary (Turner) Thurman. Sidney has been a resident of Three Rivers since 1970, coming from Chicago. He had been employed as a wheelman for the B & O Railroad while in Chicago, as was in the construction business while living here in Three Rivers. He enjoyed working on cars, hunting, fishing, and gardening in his spare time. Sidney was married to Beatrice Griffin-Hill on Nov. 27, 1966 in Chicago. She survives along with six children, Sidney Thurman, Jr. of Memphis, TN, Benny Thurman of Little Rock AR, Cynthia Phillips of Chicago, Gregory Thurman, Mark Thurman, and Audrey (Brian) Taylor all of Three Rivers; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four sisters, Nellie Pitt of Virginia Beach, VA, Mary Trotter and Jennie Swan both of Los Angeles, CA, and Rosie Dugar of Chicago; a brother, William McClendon of Blue Springs, MO; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sylvia Thurman; 2 sisters, Julia and Martha; 3 brothers, Felix Thurman, James Henry Thurman, and Robert McClendon. Cremation has been conducted.
