Robert “Bob” LeRoy Standard, age 86, of Three Rivers, Michigan, passed away on April 22, 2026, at Beacon Hospital of Kalamazoo in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Bob was born on October 2, 1939, in Woodhull Township, Michigan, the son of Marion and Vera (Johnston) Standard, Jr. He spent his early childhood in the Lansing area before moving to California in his teenage years, where he lived in several cities and built a life rich with experiences and stories. In 2000, Bob returned to Michigan, where he would spend the last 25 years of his life.
On March 7, 2003, he married Kathleen (Fry) Pianowski at their home in Portage, Michigan. Together, they shared many happy years filled with love, laughter, and family.
Bob truly lived a full and remarkable life—one that could fill volumes. From encounters with iconic figures like Marilyn Monroe to assisting Bob Hope on the golf course, Bob had a story for every occasion. He was an accomplished salesman who worked for companies such as Indiana Glass and Weyerhaeuser, earning respect for his dedication and natural ability to connect with people.
He was never afraid to try something new and embraced life with curiosity and enthusiasm. Bob enjoyed baking delicious breads, cooking, and especially sharing recipes with his daughter, with whom he had a special bond. He also took pride in woodworking, crafting beautiful pens on his lathe. Bob had a deep appreciation for art and a unique ability to recognize and encourage creativity in others.
Bob showed his love in many ways, often through his actions and the stories he shared. He was a gifted storyteller whose life lessons and experiences left a lasting impression on all who listened.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Standard; daughter, Charlene (Jason) Pemstein of Encino, California; grandchildren, Garrett (Melissa) Pemstein of Sherman Oaks, California, and Megan (Stephen) Pullos of San Jose, California; and great-grandson, Spencer Pemstein. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Shannon Piper of Centreville, Michigan, Heather Barnes of Atlanta, Indiana, and Adam (Erin) Pianowski of Three Rivers, Michigan; step-grandchildren, Lakeyn (Kenique) Ambersley of Constantine, Michigan, Isabella (Connor) Elliot of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Savannah (Adam) Terry of Fulton, Michigan, and Emma Barnes; Maxon and Payton Pianowski; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his step-son, Aaron Pianowski; and six siblings.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Ray Funeral Services of Three Rivers, Michigan, has been entrusted with Bob’s care.
