Pat "Fendz" "Largemouth Bass" McKenzie

Patrick Michael McKenzie II, also known by his DJ names “Fendz” and “Largemouth Bass,” age 38, of Marcellus, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home on September 4, 2026.

Pat was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on March 11, 1988, the son of Patrick Michael McKenzie I and Patricia Arlene (Chaplin) McKenzie. He graduated from Three Rivers High School with the Class of 2006 and later attended classes at Western Michigan University before discovering his calling in the music industry as a DJ.

Music was a huge part of Pat’s life. He shared his passion and talent at venues throughout Michigan, including Papa Pete's, Harpo’s in Detroit, The Intersection in Grand Rapids, and the DeltaPlex. Known to many as “Largemouth Bass,” Pat also loved the festival scene and participated in events such as Electric Forest.

Pat was someone who could not easily be put into a box. He was passionate about political activism and traveled throughout the United States working to put items on ballots and helping people exercise their voices in the political process. He loved Dungeons & Dragons and was an amazing Dungeon Master, creating adventures and memories for those around him. He enjoyed fishing, science fiction, fantasy, fantasy football, and college football. He proudly cheered for the University of Michigan and Western Michigan University, and when it came to professional football, he was a Detroit Lions fan.

Pat was also recognizable for his big beard and his collection of tie-dyed shirts—nearly every shirt he owned seemed to have a little color and personality of its own.

Pat will be remembered for his heart. He was kind to a fault and had a natural caretaker's heart. He would do almost anything to help someone in need. He loved to cook, often creating his own concoctions that somehow always turned out to be good. He loved his Australian Shepherd, Pepper, and was a wonderful brother, uncle, and friend.

Pat believed in encouraging people to follow their dreams and to be kind to everyone they met. He stood up for his friends and family and was always willing to lend a hand. His generosity, humor, individuality, and genuine concern for others left an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

He is survived by Eric Schippers of Marcellus; Farrah (Travis Fireline) McKenzie of Mottville; Myrriah McKenzie of Three Rivers; and his niece and nephews, Hunter McKenzie, who serves in the Army; Xavier Fireline of Mottville; Zander Fireline, who also serves in the Army; Jeb Hack of Marcellus; Brittany Myers; and Michael Myers. He is also survived by his best friends, Andrew George and Jacob Person, along with many other friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick Michael McKenzie I and Patricia Arlene McKenzie, and his niece, Rondha McKenzie.

In accordance with Pat's wishes, cremation has taken place. 

A celebration of Pat's life will be held at Papa Pete's on October 4, 2026, with the time to be announced.
