Obituary

Myrtle Lucy Barnes, age 94 of Three Rivers, died Saturday Aug. 16, 2014 at Heartland Healthcare Center in Three Rivers. She was born in Mendon on May 9, 1920 the youngest daughter of Thomas and Clyo (Kline) Engle, and attended school in Mendon. She was married to LoWayne Elmer Barnes on Sep. 4, 1937 in Centreville. They lived briefly in Three Rivers before moving to Mendon, and then to a farm near Colon. Myrtle was a homemaker and farm wife. She was also employed by Colon Community Schools in the food service program for many years. Following her retirement, she moved back to Three Rivers, where she was a member of the Bethany Chapel. Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lowayne; her son, Lowayne, Jr. two sisters, Rebecca Smith and Nellie Griffin; and a brother, Karl Engle. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Eugene Blasius and Shirley Davis; and special friend, Dee Neely. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday Aug. 20, 2014 at the Eickhoff Farrand Halverson Chapel in Three Rivers. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Tim Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie River Cemetery in Centreville.
