Larry Edward Schoenholtz, age 60 of Colon, died Sunday, April 20, 2008 at his home. He was born in Detroit on March 18, 1948 the son of the late Paul W. and Martha (Oliver) Schoenholtz. While in Detroit, Larry was a technical writer for Blue Cross. He was also an author penning, "New Directions in the I Ching". Larry was also a composer and produced a concert at Wayne State University in 1978. He was also and astronomer, and co-produced a popular map of nearest stars out to 12 light-years.
Larry received his B.A. in English from Wayne State University before moving to Three Rivers in 1988. While here he taught English Comp, Great Books, Poetry, Piano, Beginning French, and Pool at Glen Oaks Community College. He published numerous articles for the Sturgis Journal, Riverrun, and The Write Staff. He later received his M.A. from Western Michigan University.
Larry is survived by a daughter, Christa Napier (Dustin) of Sturgis; a step-daughter, Madeline Fergison of Shipshewana; special friends, Aaron & Katie Hunnicutt of Colon; a long time friend Tom Kimble of Three Rivers; 3 half-sisters, Phyllis, Paulette, and Eloise and a sister in law, Genia Young all of Florida; and by many friends students, and fellow pool players. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by a brother, Robert Young.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has been conducted. A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in the Three Rivers Eagles Lodge #2303. Memorials will be directed to the family. Assistance was provided by the Eickhoff, Farrand, Halverson Chapel of Three Rivers.
