Obituary

Kathryn "Kay Baker, age 79 of Three Rivers, died Sunday, July 20, 2008 at Three Rivers Health Hospice. She was born in Flint, MI on November 5, 1928 the daughter of Lloyd and Gertrude (Callahan) Kittinger. She graduated from St. Michaels High School in Flint, MI. She married James "Jim" Baker on May 24, 1952 in Flint. They moved to Ypsilanti, MI where they resided until 1978. In 1978 after Jim's transfer to a new GM Hydra-Matic Plant in Three Rivers, MI, Kay became an active volunteer at Three Rivers Area Hospital and Immaculate Conception Church and the Red Hat Society. Kay and Jim co-founded the "Lights of Love" project. Kay and Jim fully embraced the Three Rivers Community and in return, were embraced right back. She successfully raised 8 teenagers maintaining her sanity with a great deal of prayer and more than a touch of humor! Later her children would realize that the Baker Home provided a haven for many who just needed to know that someone cared about them. She died as she lived with grace and courage. All who knew her were better people because of it. In her honor, please perform a quiet act of kindness for someone else. Kay is survived by her 8 children; Suzanne (John) Mayer of Byron Center, MI; James Jr. (Alicia) Baker of Milan, MI; Mary Carol (Tom) Clark of Schoolcraft, MI; David (Jackie) Baker of Jupiter, FL; Daniel Baker of Garden City, MI; Linda Baker of Farmington Hills, MI; Martha (Tim) VanderHeyden of Edwardsburg, MI and Thomas Baker of Three Rivers, MI. 11 grandchildren; Allison Hammond, Brian (Ann Marie) Clark, Laurel Clark, Lindsay Baker, Shelby Baker, T.J.
