Katheryn J. Tostevin
Essexville, Michigan
Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Hampton Nursing and Rehab Center in Bay City. She was 84 years old.
Katheryn was born on November 4, 1940, in Niles, Michigan, the daughter of the late Howard and Wilma Krietzer. She earned her bachelor's degree in social work from Nazareth College in Kalamazoo and went on to dedicate more than 30 years of service with the State of Michigan, working in the St. Joseph County Department of Human Services until her retirement.
A woman of strong faith, Katheryn was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Church in Three Rivers, Michigan when she lived there. She also had a lifelong love of music, which brought her both joy and comfort. She was the youngest member of her high school band, where she played the saxophone, later performed in the marching band at Michigan State University, and proudly sang with the Sweet Adelines. Kathryn's passion for music was a constant in her life, an expression of her spirit and a source of lasting friendships.
Beyond her career and music, Katheryn enjoyed traveling across the United States, and abroad, with one of her most memorable trips being to India.
Katheryn is survived by her loving daughters, Diana Poltorak, Dawn Poltorak, and April Sutton; her cherished grandchildren, David Hallock Jr., Tevin Pierce, and Autumn Pierce, Evander Sutton, Ember Sutton; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Xander and Emersyn Hallock. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Poltorak-Hallock.
Katheryn will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her dedication to helping others, and her deep love of music that enriched her life and the lives of those around her.
Per Katheryn's wish, cremation will take place, and no services will be held locally. Final arrangements were entrusted to Squires Funeral Home, 211 N. Henry Street, Bay City, MI 48706. Stories, photos and expressions of sympathy may be posted to Katheryn's Tribute Wall of her obituary @ squiresfuneralhome.com
