Obituary

At age 83 he passed away peacefully in his home on February 18th, 2026, in Marcellus, MI. He was born February 5th,1943, in Detroit, the son of Victor and Octavia (Venticinque) Halferty.

Hobart grew up in Pontiac where he met Nancy before moving to Flowerfield Twp., where he created a home for himself and his family and chose to stay all the way up until his passing. Hobie and Nancy married on February 20,1971 and spent almost 54 years together. Hobie always had a soft spot when it came to family, he was many things: a father, grandfather, and even a great grandfather. He always had an act for telling stories from his childhood all the way into his older years, not a single name or detail was left out when he told them.

Hobie was an outdoorsman, he was an avid hunter and fisherman, he spent as much time as he could to spread his love for the outdoors to his grandchildren. Hobart was a working man; in his younger years he worked on golf courses and in factories. His most loved job was being a welding instructor at Constantine High School and Glen Oaks Community College where he chose to retire from. His sense of humor always stood out, he was a man of never-ending jokes, laughter always filled the room when he was around. He had a passion for collecting things involving bears (except the football team), Yosemite Sam, lighthouses, and old westerns. He would always say he relates to those things the most because of how ornery they always are. He was a man who never liked to accept help but was always willing to help others in any way he could.

Hobie is survived by his brother Lee, daughter Heather (David) Wiard; grandchildren Brighton (Austin Moreland) Halferty, Cody (Gabrielle) Halferty, and Christopher (Denise) Sullivan; great-grandchildren Lane Halferty, Octavia Moreland, and Roseline and Lisanna Halferty; his son Shawn (Melissa) Halferty, and his grandchildren Chase, Kyle, and Maddox Halferty; as well as many more family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Octavia, and his wife, Nancy.

In accordance with Hobie's wishes, cremation has taken place.
