Henry George Hendrick
12.10.51 - 06.19.26
A legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to family.
With hearts full of love, gratitude, and sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Henry “Hank” George Hendrick, who passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on June 19, 2026, at the age of 74. Hank was a man of extraordinary strength, kindness, and integrity. He lived fully, loved deeply, and gave generously of himself. To those who knew him best, he was not only admired, but cherished—a steady source of unconditional love, laughter, support, and unwavering devotion to his family.
Hank was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur B. and Alice K. Hendrick; his sister, Marjorie E Durall; his brother, Grant H. Hendrick; his mother-in-law, Mary Ward; his father-in-law, Otho Burnett; his brother-in-law, Gary Otho Burnett; his sister-in-law, Wanda L Cooper; and his son-in-law, Brian K Fox. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Bonnie “Sue” Hendrick; his daughters, Sheilia L. (Marvin) Maloy and Michelle “Shelly” K. Fox; his grandsons, Alexander J. and Christopher A. Maloy; Two brothers, Edward A. Hendrick and Donald (Vivian) Hendrick; nephews, Raymond A. (Annmarie) York and Raymond T. (Susan) Smith; and many other cherished family members and special friends.
From humble beginnings, Hank built a life defined by resilience, independence, hard work, and deep devotion to family. On January 3, 1972, he married the love of his life, Sue, in Three Rivers at the Church of Christ, with lifelong friend Shirley Betts standing beside them. As a young man, Hank worked at Fiber Converters in Three Rivers in the mid-1970s. In 1979, with an entrepreneurial spirit and determination, he moved his family to Sturgis, where he owned a tanning salon and later launched Sturgis Overhead Door and Ladder, a business that has served the St. Joseph County area for more than 40 years. Everything Hank did was for the people he loved, and he took great pride in building a life filled with security, laughter, and lasting memories for his family.
Hank found joy in life’s simple pleasures and in the people around him. He loved fishing, golfing, casinos, concerts, classic cars, refinishing furniture, and playing aggravation with his family. He was known for his stories, his sing-alongs to Willie, Elvis, and Patsy, and for making the people around him feel seen, supported, and loved. After retiring in 1999, he delivered the South Bend Tribune for five years and enjoyed being out on the road while the rest of the world was still sleeping. In later years, he found happiness in puzzles, family history, toy trains, and puttering in his garage and yard—but above all else, he treasured time with his family. Hank’s daughters remember a childhood filled with laughter, vacations, fireworks, car shows, shopping trips, home videos, and countless moments that made them feel deeply loved. His legacy is one of unconditional love, selflessness, generosity, loyalty, and fierce devotion to family. To know Hank was to be welcomed, never judged, and always loved.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial open house will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at 65606 M-66 (Ione Dr), Sturgis, Michigan. Memorial donations may be directed to the family to assist with expenses.
