George Varichak, age 92, passed away at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis, MI on February 18, 2020, surrounded by his family. He was born August 24, 1927 in Chicago, IL, a son to Nicholas and Anna (Bozich) Varichak. George married Violet Ratkovich on September 6, 1953, at Saint Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church in Chicago, IL. He was a World War II Navy Veteran fighting in the Pacific Theater. George was survived by daughter: Nancy (Brian) Maxwell of Sturgis, MI; son: Michael (Debra) Varichak of Phoenix, AZ; Grandchildren: Brian (Marcy) Maxwell of Constantine, MI, Sean (Cara) Maxwell of South Lyons, MI; Lindsey (Kyle) Ray of Sturgis, MI, Natalie Varichak of Arizona and Richie Potasky of Arizona; Great Grandchildren: Quinn, Tessa and Caden Maxwell, Ben and Ava Maxwell, Oliver and Maxwell Ray and Great Grandson on the way Jensen Ray; Many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Violet, parents and step-father: George Alexich, Siblings: Eli, Peter, Milan and Dorothy Varichak, Mildred Uzlec and Violet Myert. Funeral service will be held on February 21, 2020 at 10:00 AM at St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church, 1500 East 186th Street Lansing, IL. Interment will be at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville, Indiana directly following the funeral service. Ray Funeral Services in Three Rivers, MI was entrusted with funeral arrangements.
