Obituary

Eugene Liggett, age 87 of Three Rivers, died May 10, 2011 at his Fishers Lake home. He was born on July 25, 1923 in North Liberty, IN the son of Bernice and Verna L. (Steele) Liggett. He has resided near Three Rivers since 1959, coming from Edwardsburg. His early life was spent in the North Liberty area. Eugene was married to Norma Bell Parsons on Aug. 28, 1943 in North Liberty. She died on Oct. 27, 2000. Eugene served with the U.S. Navy after WWII and during the occupation of China. He was employed as a boring Machine Operator for ARMCO Steel Company in south Bend for over 25 years. He also managed the former City Hardware in Three Rivers for 12 years, and was an avid fisherman. Eugene is survived by 2 sons, Gary Liggett of Rockford, MI and Lonnie Liggett of Colorado; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Ann, Lucy, and Susie; 1 brother, Maurice; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma; a daughter, Mary Ann Liggett; 2 brothers, Earl and DeWayne; and a sister, Jenny. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Eickhoff, Farrand, Halverson Chapel in Three Rivers. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday May 17, 2011 at the funeral home with Rev. Brian Parsons officiating. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola, IN. Donations may be directed to a charity of one's choice.
