Eugene Dunlap, age 81 of Three Rivers, died Thursday, Sep. 18, 2008 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Kalamazoo following a long illness. He was born in Mendon, MI on April 3, 1927 the son of David F. and Leona Wilty (Ballman) Dunlap. Eugene graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1943 and later served in the Merchant Marines. He was married to Joyce Kirk on Sep. 2, 1955 in Vandalia. They have resided in Three Rivers since their marriage.
Eugene was a machinist at Continental Can Co. in Three Rivers until its closing. He then became a salesman for Lawson Products of Des Plaines, IL until his retirement. Eugene enjoyed local politics and was active in community affairs. He served as the Fabius Township Supervisor for over 20 years. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Joyce; 1 daughter and son in law, Suzanne & Douglas Wanty of Ann Arbor; 2 grandchildren, Cooper and Isabel Wanty of Ann Arbor; a sister in law, Lena Rose Dunlap of Dayton, TN; and 3 nephews, Scott, Van, and David Dunlap. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother, Charles Dunlap; and a nephew, Charles Dunlap, Jr.
Cremation has been conducted. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The family suggests that memorials be given to the West Michigan Cancer Center, 200 N.
