Obituary

Elmer C. "Chuck" Oswald, age 83, a man of Godly character and integrity went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus on Sunday June 22, 2014 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo following a short illness. He was born on Sep. 29, 1930 in Palms, MI the son of Andrew and Marguerite (Potts) Oswald. He was a graduate of Western Michigan University and served in the US Army in Korea, and was awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He has been a Three Rivers resident since 1953 coming from Minden, MI. Elmer was employed as an accountant for General Motors and retired from the Kalamazoo plant in 1987. He was a past member of the Three Rivers Bible Church and Bethany Chapel. He was involved in many leadership roles, was a Youth Leader, played and coached softball. He is currently a member of Temple Baptist Church. He enjoyed U of M football and bowling. Elmer was married to Florence E. Cooley on Oct. 7, 1953 in Angola, IN. She survives along with his children, Deb (Wendell) Westcomb of Three Rivers, Steve (Sue) Oswald of Rittman, OH, Shirley (Jim) MacGregor of Vicksburg, Frank (Michell) Oswald of Grand Rapids, John Oswald of Lansing, Dave (Julie) Oswald of Allendale, and Sharon Furey of Constantine; twenty nine grandchildren; thirty seven great grandchildren; three sisters, Eileen (Robert) Lohr, Rita Stoner of Port Huron, and Edna Hansen of Lansing; a brother, Andrew (Eleanor) Oswald of Port Huron; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and a sister. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Eickhoff Farrand Halverson Chapel in Three Rivers. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday June 27, 2014 at Temple Baptist Church, 55437 Wilbur Road, Three Rivers with Mr. Steve Oswald officiating. Military interment will be in Peek Cemetery.
