Barbara Jean Miller, age 94 of Portage died Wednesday May 11, 2016 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo following a long illness. She was born in Martin, MI on Sep. 28, 1921 one of seven children born to Tracy and Hazel (Wickes) Lukins. She was a graduate of Martin High School. Barbara was married to Carl Frank Miller on April 12, 1950 in Kalamazoo and they continued to reside in Portage following their marriage. Barbara worked for the Upjohn company for fifteen years, and later for Portage Public Schools. She enjoyed bowling, golf, and travel, and especially loved hosting family functions. Barbara is survived by two sons, Gary (Vicky) Miller and Mike (Denise) Miller both of Three Rivers; three grandchildren, Stewart (Amy) Miller of Portage, Brandon Miller of Orlando, FL, and Kristy (Mark) Sootsman of Galesburg; five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl Miller last December; five brothers, Max, Glenn, Richard, Tracy, and Romane Lukins; and by a sister, Marian Trebilcock. Cremation has been conducted. A private family service will be held later. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
